How to encourage children to appreciate and interpret Artworks

"Given the diversity that characterizes or a work of art contains guidance is needed as to the multiple possibilities of analysis to his approach that will address all aspects she raises simultaneously, without affecting the character of coherently organized visual unity" the author refers Mercedes Velasquez  E. Jodar*, his approach referring to the interpretation of the art works is given based on the child's psychological development which occurs in stages and is aimed at children aged 7-12 years, however, according to the interests and development of children we dare we suggest applying it to children from 4 years of successful experience gained as a classroom teacher from the ages of 4-6 years, but always respecting the methodological process of the workshop for adaptation:

Development Levels in the Plastic Work Observation:

Take for example the work of art Atardecer from Monet (top right) printing, it is important that the child spends a lower level to a higher, avoid skipping levels, here we offer some questions to ayudarána reinforce each level, you will be Allow the child first and unaided describe what you observed but not being able to stimulate questions:

1. Describe elements, objects or phenomena of limited or partial enumerative way poor characteristics (What do you see in the paintings of Monet)
Numerative fuller
2. Description without differentiating the fundamentals, ie describe everything you see but so as explained above (What do you see in the painting, how the child or the lady is, where they are, etc. ).
3.   Description which shows a wealth of features and highlights the key (do you think is going on, why do you think runs the wind, etc.).
4.   Make comparisons and establishes relationships (Who do you think is the child who will be doing the child with the woman, etc.)
5. The child meets the above and explains aspects of the elements, or objects or observed phenomena (why will run the wind, because shadows are, how you think the title of the painting, etc.).

Other Aspects to Look at a Painting (Considering the age of 4-6 years):

1. Place where you are, time; author, for example, think the lady and child are of Peru; how they dress, why not dress like us, etc)
2. Formal elements: shape, and color areas, eg where the child is, where the woman is, how are the light or dark colors, etc.
3. Materials which is made, for example, that Monet used to do his work.

Here we propose some works that you can work with children ages 4 to 6 years: La Mona Lisa (Leonardo Da Vinci), Bodegón (Ramona Riquelde), Woman on the Terrace  (Henri Matisse), etc.

Why is it important for my Child Draw

Teachers often hear parents say that their children lose time in schools drawing, but here we present some of the reasons for the importance of drawing in the preschool age. (Picture on the right: Title: The Dinosaur Extinction; old child 5 years 5 months)

  • Is the first level of written communication of the child, ie the basis for the child to express himself through writing later.
  • It is a medium through which children can express their feelings, needs and emotions.
  • Strengthens fine motor skills and then provide writing.

How to Encourage Children Drawing

We must consider what the phases are drawing our children to help them in their development as well:

From 18 months.- wild scribbling or drawing is given, the child does not want to represent anything, just take the color and makes strong lines without some form, no coodinación eye-brain-hand. He should be providing the child with thick markers because they do not need more precision or strength to take them and the color is more visible and appealing to him encouraging him to continue scribbling, give large leaves, preferably A3 size, can be colored leaves.

From Two years.- begins to realize that his drawings are related to the movements he does and begins to conduct controlled scribbles but not showing definite forms, usually they begin with strokes, pellets, etc. You can give them preferably thick triangular crayons.

From Three years.- In this age there is already interest in representing something, a figure, a character, object, etc; usually they represent single figures, but when the child is more mature or adequate stimulation is capable of representing primitive compositions and unrecognizable even giving more advanced work. Although the drawings are not defined children are able to say this is me, this is dad with my mom on the beach, etc. We can help asking: What have you drawn, who is in your drawing, where they are, etc. Whiteboards provide for the child because it will be easier to erase and redraw the Whiteboards are for children the magical instrument that allows them to unleash their creativity. It is recommended to hang pictures in a visible place and congratulate the child for his work, if possible in the kitchen where there majolica or any other part of the house where roles in big white (flipcharts) are placed, defining a space where you can draw tempera freely and be part of the decor, are advised not allow scratch or draw on the walls or furniture in the house freely for where to go will do the same, especially at school, most likely causing discomfort, creativity should not be limited but whether to limit the principles on which it should be developed for the sake of our children.

From 4 years.- His drawings are representations more definition, we can encourage the child not only asking what drew but asking him to put a title to the drawing. It is important to take the kids to museums where paintings, photographs, drawings, sculptures, etc. are displayed, properly motivating and enabling them to appreciate what they see without trying to bring them to an established conclusion, but let them just enjoy the time and if they an observation or criticism about the observed properly without imposing pre guiding criteria like trying to interpret in a personalized way the above be it a painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.

How to Teach Our Children About Finance & Preschooler

The importance of finance because it is a term related to transactions and money management and hence its importance in teaching, however, is a topic that is not working or working around with the smaller due the lack of an appropriate methodology, here we present some important point concerning practical and very didactic teaching that not only introduce their children in learning finances but they will experience it in their daily work.

1. Play games like Monopolio.- From 4 or 5 years children are able to learn this game, you must have patience with them and help as it may not even identify large numbers as 500 but the numbers 1 to 10, never minimize the potential for your child because they may be more work to teach this type of games that a simple and playful Apps only on the contrary, the monopoly has great benefits in your child's learning and worth the effort to teach them to learn to play:
  • Taught to identify higher numbers 1 to 10 and the value thereof, with the game relate to the greater number more goods can be purchased.
  • Prepares them for the real world where money is an instrument that can benefit using it correctly.
  • The introduced into the solution of basic problems in finance: how to add, subtract, make appropriate decisions when it comes to selling, top, mortgage, etc, a good.
  • Taught about the transaction of goods and proper money management.By following the rules of the game learn to be honest, to respect others, to have boundaries that will benefit not only in finance but in their daily lives.

2. Undertake Your Own Negocio.- This should be commensurate with the age of your child and should have a goal that motivates you, for example, if a toy you want to buy, this should not be too expensive for their effort in business is not too much for him or her, that is the proceeds of the sale must be obtained in not very long, two or three weeks periods, and what band is something that the child can participate in its development. The child learns:
  • A plan,  to have a goal of what you want to get money is to know the meaning of the concept of goal to decide what what to do and how you will spend it learning about investment, when made, for example gelatin for sell, executes his plan, when earnings account evaluates its business plan and when it is propaganda to sell is learning about marketing.
  • It helps you to effectively interact with others, improving their level of speaking, listening and symbolic (when does propaganda for example when using draw or write the steps of planning your business)
  • It teaches you to save, not necessarily as a single sale you can get the money to buy what you want, thus saving up to have to go get it, it teaches you to be self-controlled.

Activities to Develop Attention and Concentration

joaquion.jpgAttention and concentration are very important for all learning, as are the door through which the child can be taught, which is why teachers give due importance when students show have problems with them, however, childhood is the most appropriate stage not only to develop the level of attention and concentration but to cover certain weaknesses in them.

• Put together puzzles to according to age, if they are less than 2 years there in one piece (lace), for children 2-6 puzzle two or more pieces respecting their level of development from what is most simple to complex for him.

• Games  are like threading cones with hoops, for babies with thicker hooks and for children with flat washers.

• Memory Games, you can use sheets, while the older child is smaller size and fewer of them, it is recommended to start with three cards or sheets before the child is ordered and within 5 seconds show naming what's on and pointing cards each, which may be the same group or not; eg: cat - giraffe - mono or house - lion - apple; figures are turned and asked the child to indicate where the monkey or giraffe or cat is.
• Giving orders ranging from the simplest to the most complex; according to age is asked, for example when it comes to a child younger than 2 years: takes the bottle to the kitchen; 5 years, for example, can give more than two orders get changed clothes, then you wash your hands and then sit down to eat. Keep in mind that the order should be given clear and precise and asking the child to look at the face when you speak him. Is that of, at first may repeat it twice or three, then I could get to give it only once and child must remember, that would be optimal.
• Sets of songs that it increases them or removing words, for example:

  My Car´s Uncle

The car of my uncle has a hole in the rim

The car of my uncle has a ---------------- on the tire (Bis)

The car of my uncle has a -------- on the---------------- (Bis)

The car of my --------has  ------------- on the---------------- at (Bis)

fix it with soap.
